Right now, we\u2019re working our way through one of my favorites,\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Black-Beauty-Sterling-Classics-Sewell\/dp\/1402714521\/\">Black Beauty<\/a><\/em>. A good excuse to dig out\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/hushiepie\/4573538282\/\">my old Breyer set<\/a> of Black Beauty, Duchess, Ginger, and Merrylegs.<strong> \u2014<strong>Nicole Rudick<\/strong><br \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I spent the holiday with friends in New England, and we played many a round of what I\u2019ve always called \u201cThe Book Game\u201d and Dwight Garner calls \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2011\/07\/02\/books\/paperback-game-fun-with-literary-opening-lines.html\">The Paperback Game<\/a>\u201d\u00a0and, either way, is about the most entertaining game in existence. (Hint: don\u2019t play it with Terry Southern\u2019s <em>Candy<\/em>, which has a seventy-word opening sentence. I speak from experience.) \u2014<strong>S. S.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/nplusonemag.com\/tyson-projected\">Avi Steinberg on Mike Tyson<\/a>. \u2014<strong>T. L. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Thanks to Maud Newton\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theawl.com\/2011\/06\/football-and-nachos-the-texas-way\">nostalgia for the Lone Star state<\/a> (and my own), I\u2019m making <a href=\"http:\/\/homesicktexan.blogspot.com\/2008\/01\/nachos-101.html\">nachos<\/a> this weekend.\u00a0\u2014<strong>N. R. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you haven\u2019t already, read Jose Antonio Vargas\u2019s personal <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2011\/06\/26\/magazine\/my-life-as-an-undocumented-immigrant.html\">confession<\/a> of being an undocumented immigrant. \u201cWe\u2019re not always who you think we are. Some pick your strawberries or care for your children. Some are in high school or college. And some, it turns out, write news articles you might read.\u201d\u00a0\u2014<strong>T.
