Photographs courtesy of the Huntington Library.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In 1969, five years before Eve Babitz published her first book, <em>Eve\u2019s Hollywood<\/em>, she kept a journal\u2014her only surviving diary\u2014in which she honed the voice that would make her the consummate chronicler of seventies Los Angeles. A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theparisreview.org\/letters-essays\/8449\/journal-1969-1970-eve-babitz?utm_source=The+Paris+Review+Newsletter&amp;utm_campaign=cf1b1d8f07-TPRMailchimp_20251217_ISSUE_254-Babitz&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_term=0_-660513641d-&amp;mc_cid=cf1b1d8f07&amp;mc_eid=UNIQID\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" of entries appears in our new Winter issue.<\/p>\n<p>In the journal, Babitz also detailed her experiments with several other art forms, including collage and photography. \u201cI got a camera for $7.98\u2014a Brownie,\u201d she notes on December 21, 1969, \u201cand have been taking pictures of palm trees which are turning out very well.\u201d The Huntington Library, which acquired Babitz\u2019s archive in 2021, is currently displaying several of those photographs in an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.huntington.org\/exhibitions\/stories-library-bronte-butler?utm_source=The+Paris+Review+Newsletter&amp;utm_campaign=cf1b1d8f07-TPRMailchimp_20251217_ISSUE_254-Babitz&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_term=0_-660513641d-&amp;mc_cid=cf1b1d8f07&amp;mc_eid=UNIQID\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"
