It may be too late, though, seeing as the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/blogs\/compost\/post\/how-harold-camping-actually-calculated-the-may-21-end-of-the-world\/2011\/05\/18\/AFzSYh6G_blog.html#pagebreak\">Rapture is due to occur tomorrow<\/a>. \u2014<strong>Natalie Jacoby<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2011\/05\/20\/us\/20rapture.html?hp\">Whether or not you believe<\/a> the world is going to end tomorrow, read\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.theawl.com\/2011\/05\/may-21-the-rapture-meets-my-40th-birthday\">Maud Newton on having her fortieth birthday coincide with the Rapture<\/a>. \u2014<strong>Thessaly La Force<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With a stunning and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/sport\/2011\/may\/09\/wouter-weylandt-giro-ditalia\" target=\"_blank\">tragic<\/a> Giro d\u2019Italia in full swing in Europe and the Amgen Tour of California rolling closer to home, it\u2019s been a good time to dig out\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Rider-Tim-Krabbe\/dp\/1582342903\/\">The Rider<\/a><\/em>, Tim Krabb\u00e9\u2019s fictionalization of the\u00a01977 Tour du Mont Aigoual race in southern France.\u00a0The bikes are heavier and sprockets smaller than the feats of engineering raced today, but the raw drive to suffer and dominate that animates\u00a0Krabb\u00e9\u2019s lean staccato hasn\u2019t aged a day. \u2014<strong>Peter Conroy<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In his recent\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theparisreview.org\/interviews\/6012\/the-art-of-fiction-no-203-ray-bradbury\"><em>Paris Review<\/em> interview<\/a>, Ray Bradbury claims to have modeled\u00a0<em>The Martian Chronicles<\/em> after Sherwood Anderson\u2019s\u00a0<em>Winesburg, Ohio<\/em>. I\u2019m fond of\u00a0Bradbury, and I\u2019m fond of (and from) Ohio, and a friend recently passed Anderson\u2019s short-story cycle along as suggested\u00a0reading. It hit the mark for me, not least for its chilly evocations of claustrophobic, small-town America. \u2014<strong>Stephen Andrew Hiltner<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"twitter.com\/robdelaney\">Rob Delaney<\/a> really panders to my weird, should-I-open-this-URL-at-work sense of humor. Recently, I was very happy to learn he\u2019ll be writing <a href=\"http:\/\/www.viceland.com\/wp\/2011\/05\/take-a-stroll-with-rob-delaney-welcome\/\">a new column<\/a> for <em>Vice <\/em>magazine. I\u2019ve never been more excited about feeling like I did something wrong or inappropriate, which is how I feel when I read his jokes. \u2014<strong>N.
