In our Winter 1981 issue,\u00a0The Paris Review\u00a0<\/em>published an early story by Jamaica Kincaid. Titled \u201cWhat I Have Been Doing Lately<\/a>,\u201d it follows the narrator\u2019s recursive, dreamlike journey in search of home. (You can listen to her reading it on the\u00a0inaugural season<\/a>\u00a0of\u00a0The Paris Review Podcast<\/em>.) The story was included in Kincaid\u2019s 1983 debut collection,\u00a0At the Bottom of the River<\/em>, which drew from her early life in Antigua and marked her as a singular voice in American letters. Kincaid has gone on to publish five novels and five books of nonfiction\u2014she was a prolific\u00a0New Yorker<\/em>\u00a0Talk of the Town columnist\u2014as well as many other stories. In 2020, the\u00a0Daily<\/em>\u00a0published two of her essays, \u201cI See the World<\/a>\u201d and \u201cInside the American Snow Dome<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s our pleasure to announce that on April 12, 2022,\u00a0The Paris Review<\/em>\u00a0will present the Hadada, our annual lifetime achievement award, to Jamaica Kincaid at our\u00a0Spring Revel<\/a>.<\/p>\n

To celebrate, we\u2019re highlighting the work of previous Hadada winners in this week\u2019s Redux.
