Sylvia Khoury is a New York\u2013born writer of French and Lebanese descent. Her plays include Selling Kabul<\/em> (Playwrights Horizons, Williamstown Theater Festival), Power Strip<\/em> (LCT3), Against the Hillside<\/em> (Ensemble Studio Theater), and The Place Women Go<\/em>. She is currently under commission from Lincoln Center, Williamstown Theater Festival, and Seattle Repertory Theater. Awards include the L. Arnold Weissberger Award and Jay Harris Commission and a Citation of Excellence from the Laurents\/Hatcher Awards. She is a member of EST\/Youngblood and a previous member of the 2018\u201319 Rita Goldberg Playwrights\u2019 Workshop at the Lark and the 2016\u201318 WP Lab. Her plays have been developed at Playwrights Horizons, Williamstown Theater Festival, Eugene O\u2019Neill Playwrights Conference, Roundabout Theater Underground, Lark Playwrights\u2019 Week, EST\/Youngblood, and WP Theater. She holds a B.A. from Columbia University and an M.F.A. from the New School for Drama. She will obtain her M.D. from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in May 2021.<\/p>\n

\nWatching it crack when there\u2019s nothing.

TAROON
\nUntil one day, there\u2019s something.<\/p>\n

AFIYA
\nWe repair that box and you won\u2019t have an invitation to America.
\nJust a message from Jeff.<\/p>\n

TAROON
\nJeff is my friend.<\/p>\n

AFIYA
\nJeff is not your friend.
\nJeff got to go home to America.
\nJeff abandoned you.<\/p>\n

TAROON
\nJeff didn\u2019t abandon me.
\nListen, Afiya.
\nAmerica, their word is good, okay?

AFIYA
\nHe fills your head with dreams.
\nI don\u2019t like it.<\/p>\n

TAROON
\nYou know what Jeff and I went through together.<\/p>\n

AFIYA

TAROON

He pulls out a binder from under the floor couch.<\/em>

\nTaroon.<\/p>\n

TAROON
\nAll the letters he had them write me.
\nTaroon translated for us here\u2014
\nTaroon came under fire there\u2014
\nTaroon is a strong man\u2014

AFIYA
\nRepetitive man,
\nI have heard this before, Taroon.
\nPlease, you are making my head hurt.<\/p>\n

TAROON
\nThey will get me this visa, I know it.
