History. Evil. God. Human.<\/p>\n<p>ii.<br \/>\nBut what ideas,<br \/>\nin what facts? Inside the sun<\/p>\n<p>the heat is sucking<br \/>\nthe soil\u2019s moisture,<\/p>\n<p>a blue-and-red<br \/>\nDiet Pepsi logo is imprinted<\/p>\n<p>on a lobster\u2019s claw,<br \/>\nflashes of lightning, steady rains<\/p>\n<p>complicating the identification<br \/>\nof bodies<\/p>\n<p>charred<br \/>\nto bones,<\/p>\n<p>Town of Paradise a fire zone,<br \/>\nanywhere is everywhere.<br \/>\nAnd in another intensity the Great<br \/>\nMigrations of Peoples,<\/p>\n<p>ecocidal petro-<br \/>\ncapitalist qualitative<\/p>\n<p>destruction,<br \/>\nevery cubic meter<\/p>\n<p>of the planet\u2019s air,<br \/>\ninch of its surface,<\/p>\n<p>drop of water,<br \/>\naffected;<\/p>\n<p>and, now,<br \/>\nendless<\/p>\n<p>wars,<br \/>\nand proliferating sorrows.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>Cynthia Cruz is the author of six collections of poetry and a collection of essays, <\/em>Disquieting: Essays on Silence<em> (2019). She is the Kowald Visiting Writer in Poetry for the M.F.A. creative writing program at the City College of New York.
