After months of germination, our\u00a0Spring issue<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0is out today! Shrug off the winter doldrums with the bright splashes of color on our cover, painted by the\u00a0Lebanese artist\u00a0Etel Adnan<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>especially for the issue. Look between the covers for a portfolio of her color-infused landscapes, text-based works, and abstractions, curated by our interim editor Nicole Rudick<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The issue features two Art of Fiction interviews. The Mexican writer Elena\u00a0Poniatowska<\/strong><\/a>, winner of the prestigious Cervantes Prize in 2013, discusses a career\u00a0devoted to chronicling the experiences of women and the poor:<\/p>\n

My own deepest interest as a writer is in fiction but as I have learned, it is my work that is most socially engaged that is also the most valued by my readers \u2026 There is a moral obligation to write of this. I could not ignore it.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

And\u00a0Charles Johnson<\/strong><\/a>, author of the National\u00a0Book Award\u2013winning novel\u00a0Middle Passage<\/em>, describes the philosophical novel and writing about black America:<\/p>\n

I know that black life, like all life, outstrips our perceptions, that so much of black life still remains\u2014to invoke Ellison here\u2014invisible, unseen.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Also: A new story by Joy Williams<\/strong><\/a> (\u201cSometimes I ride in the chthonic with the luggage, the boots and coats, the boxes of fruit and gin and books\u201d), her tenth for the magazine. Williams will receive the Hadada, the Review<\/em>\u2019s lifetime-achievement award, at t<\/a>he Revel on April 3<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n
