The fifty masks draw inspiration from\u00a0<\/em>imagines<em>, <\/em><em>a type\u00a0of\u00a0wax casting\u00a0that aristocratic families made of their\u00a0male members\u2019 faces and displayed in their homes during the Roman Republic. \u201cIn an age before photography,\u00a0<\/em>imagines<em>\u00a0<\/em><em>were considered the truest, most objective representation of a person.\u201d Unlike the Romans,\u00a0Edmier makes his masks from plaster, and includes female\u00a0faces. \u201cSome of these people are famous, some are not. Some casts were made by me, others were not. Some people I knew intimately, others I knew casually or never met. Edmier\u2019s\u00a0<\/em>imagines<em>\u00a0is a lifeline or, possibly, a dysfunctional family tree of my own.\u201d The exhibition is accompanied by the\u00a0publication of the<\/em>\u00a0imagines <em>as a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.petzel.com\/publications\/keith-edmier\">boxed set<\/a> of fifty postcards<\/em>,\u00a0<em>written\u00a0by Edmier himself,<\/em><em>\u00a0shown below.<\/em><\/p>\n<div
