Made in 1979, the works were originally conceived of as blueprints for a ballet, the titular <\/em>Bayou Fever<em>\u2014a performance Bearden hoped would be choreographed by Alvin Ailey but was never\u00a0produced. The ballet\u2019s storyline involves a confrontation between the \u201cConjur Woman\u201d and the \u201cSwamp Witch,\u201d who twist in a dramatic struggle for the soul of a sick child deep in the bayou.
