In the exchange below, J. D. Daniels and Mike Nagel discuss Didier Anzieu\u2019s<\/em>\u00a0The Skin-Ego<\/a>,\u00a0available in a new translation by Naomi Segal.<\/em>\u00a0Anzieu (1923\u201399) was a French psychoanalyst and theorist whose work brought the body back to the center of psychoanalytic inquiry;\u00a0<\/em>The Skin-Ego, first published in the mideighties,<\/em>\u00a0found him meditating on the function and structures of the skin as a \u201cpsychic envelope.\u201d\u00a0<\/em>Naomi Segal is a professor of modern languages, specializing in comparative literary and cultural studies, gender, psychoanalysis and the body.<\/em><\/p>\n
