Hancock grew up in East Texas, in a deeply Christian family. \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/artpulsemagazine.com\/trenton-doyle-hancock-prayer-warrior\" target=\"_blank\">I\u2019ve developed a perspective over the way that I grew up, the whole Christian background thing<\/a>,\u201d he told <\/em>Artpulse<em> in 2012. \u201cI think about what are the good things that I could take from that rigor or that lifestyle and incorporate it into my studio practice. I think there\u2019s still a little bit of residue left over. I don\u2019t want to say guilt, but maybe the fear that\u2019s a deep Southern Baptist, black Baptist thing. It\u2019s definitely not guilt-based, it\u2019s more fear-based.
