Szalay is nominated for his novel\u00a0<em>All That Man Is<\/em>, two sections of which\u00a0first appeared in the\u00a0<em>Review<\/em>: \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theparisreview.org\/fiction\/6379\/youth-david-szalay\" target=\"_blank\">Youth<\/a>\u201d and \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theparisreview.org\/fiction\/6416\/lascia-amor-e-siegui-marte-david-szalay\" target=\"_blank\">Lascia Amor E Siegui Marte<\/a>.\u201d In our last issue, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theparisreview.org\/miscellaneous\/6478\/writing-iall-that-man-is-i-an-exchange-david-szalay\" target=\"_blank\">he talked to our editor, Lorin Stein<\/a>, about writing <em>All That Man Is.<\/em>\u00a0The two will convene again for a\u00a0discussion\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mcnallyjackson.com\/event\/all-man-david-szalay-lorin-stein\" target=\"_blank\">at McNally Jackson Books on Friday, October 14<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Moshfegh, nominated for her novel\u00a0<em>Eileen<\/em>, has published seven\u00a0short stories in the\u00a0<em>Review<\/em>: \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theparisreview.org\/fiction\/6170\/disgust-ottessa-moshfegh\">Disgust<\/a>,\u201d from our Fall 2012 issue; \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theparisreview.org\/fiction\/6208\/bettering-myself-ottessa-moshfegh\">Bettering Myself<\/a>,\u201d from Spring 2013; \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theparisreview.org\/fiction\/6247\/the-weirdos-ottessa-moshfegh\" target=\"_blank\">The Weirdos<\/a>,\u201d from Fall 2013;\u00a0\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theparisreview.org\/fiction\/6268\/a-dark-and-winding-road-ottessa-moshfegh\" target=\"_blank\">A Dark and Winding Road<\/a>,\u201d from Winter 2013;\u00a0\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theparisreview.org\/fiction\/6347\/slumming-ottessa-moshfegh\" target=\"_blank\">Slumming<\/a>,\u201d from Winter 2014; \u201cNo Place for Good People,\u201d from Summer 2014; and\u00a0\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theparisreview.org\/fiction\/6397\/dancing-in-the-moonlight-ottessa-moshfegh\" target=\"_blank\">Dancing in the Moonlight<\/a>,\u201d from Fall 2015.<\/p>\n<p>And\u00a0<strong>Paul<\/strong> <strong>Beatty<\/strong>, whose novel\u00a0<em>The Sellout\u00a0<\/em>made\u00a0the shortlist,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theparisreview.org\/blog\/2015\/05\/07\/our-thing-an-interview-with-paul-beatty\/\" target=\"_blank\">discussed the book at length in an interview last year with the\u00a0<em>Daily<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/books\/page-turner\/the-national-book-awards-longlist-poetry-2\" target=\"_blank\">the National Book Awards have announced this year\u2019s poetry longlist<\/a>, and here, too, the\u00a0<em>Review\u00a0<\/em>is well represented:\u00a0<strong>Peter<\/strong> <strong>Gizzi<\/strong>\u00a0has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theparisreview.org\/poetry\/6671\/-pretty-sweety-peter-gizzi\" target=\"_blank\">three poems in our Spring 2015 issue<\/a><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Monica Youn<\/strong>\u2019s \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theparisreview.org\/poetry\/6592\/goldacre-monica-youn\" target=\"_blank\">Goldacre<\/a>\u201d appeared in our Summer 2016 issue; for the <em>Daily<\/em>,\u00a0Youn wrote about what she refers to as \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theparisreview.org\/blog\/2016\/06\/15\/my-twinkie-poem\/\" target=\"_blank\">my Twinkie poem<\/a>.\u201d <strong>Solmaz Sharif\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theparisreview.org\/blog\/2016\/07\/27\/the-role-of-the-poet-an-interview-with-solmaz-sharif\/\" target=\"_blank\">spoke to the\u00a0<em>Daily<\/em> this summer about her collection<\/a>,\u00a0<em>Look<\/em>.\u00a0Finally, our poetry editor from 1953 to 1961,\u00a0<strong>Donald Hall<\/strong>,<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>has been nominated for his <em>Selected Poems<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Our congratulations to all the nominees!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On the shortlist for this year\u2019s Man Booker Prize are two of\u00a0The Paris Review\u2019s Plimpton Prize winners,\u00a0Ottessa Moshfegh\u00a0and\u00a0David Szalay.
