Best\u00a0known for <em>Night<\/em>, an autobiographical account of his experience in Nazi concentration camps toward the end of World War II, Wiesel, \u201cmore than anyone else, seared the memory of the Holocaust on the world\u2019s conscience,\u201d wrote the <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/07\/03\/world\/europe\/elie-wiesel-auschwitz-survivor-and-nobel-peace-prize-winner-dies-at-87.html?_r=0\" target=\"_blank\">New York Times<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>When asked in his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theparisreview.org\/interviews\/2995\/the-art-of-fiction-no-79-elie-wiesel\" target=\"_blank\">Art of Fiction interview<\/a>, published in the Spring 1984 issue of <em>The Paris Review<\/em>, where his \u201cquest\u201d was leading him, Wiesel responded,\u00a0<!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I don\u2019t know. I know two things. One, I am going in a concentric circle. That I set out to do. I came from the outside and I am going deeper and deeper. I don\u2019t know what I will find there. I know the moment I find the last point, I will stop. Maybe I will never find it. I also know that I haven\u2019t begun. It\u2019s a strange feeling. I say to myself, you have written this and this and this, and you haven\u2019t even begun. That doesn\u2019t mean that I deny my work. On the contrary, I stand behind every word I have written. There isn\u2019t a book I would not write the same way today. There isn\u2019t a story I would disown, not a word. My entire life and entire work are behind every line. At the same time, on the edge you see so much.
