Deer on the Way to Work

So as I was saying, on the way to work I saw
a deer. Sliding out of a turn, I was speeding:
He looked up in the slow way only a deer can,
without a single movement. I began to cry.

A deer? Sliding out of a turn and speeding
into the hill. I thought: Great Dane!
Without a single movement I began to cry.
I had been listening to a song that spoke of you.

Into the hill. I thought: Great Dane?
How could that be? I was transfixed.
I had been listening to a song that spoke of you
And thinking how many worlds we’d come.

How could that be? I was transfixed.
No further evidence was needed. This was God.
And thinking how many worlds we’d come!
Suddenly the sun split the window in two.

No further evidence was needed. This was God.
I had been searching the hill for a vision when
Suddenly the sun split the window in two.
Were you with me? Did you see him?
