Why all the chipped shoulders re: Keillor's poignant little farewell to a certain sense of a published self? It may not be true for you but it's true for him and that used to be much of the published word's allure: a window on the inner-worlds of others. All the online rage again Keillor feels like a militantly affirmation-hungry response.

I think I understand that his use of the word "children" isn't snooty; I see tweens who are, indeed, growing into a world on the other side of a cusp I've spent most of my adulthood in. I'm not mad at Keillor or the cusp... it's just something to think about.

Also think too many sensitive people get pissed at writers while free-passing, say, soldiers or TV execs.

I love the term "online grazing" - I think is the first place I've seen it.

These two installments of the Culture Diaries are the best thing I've read on the web in ages - keep them coming, please!

Hi Maud -

Really enjoyed reading your diaries and am a fan of your blog. Curious: where does your online grazing generally take place?
